Keep It Casual
I had a pair of Le Coq Sportif polyester jogging bottoms once when I was 12 maybe. I thought they were cool at the time and now I quite fancy them again. They almost definitely came from the dreamland that was JJB Sports, which I genuinely have fond memories of, and they were a rather murky bluey grey. There were zips at the bottom of each leg, for those, I thought, with large ankles and navy stripes down the sides. I wore them a lot and made an extra effort to dress them up even to the supermarket. Thinking about it - they were my wardrobe staple and I didn't even know it.
I've just bought a new pair. They're dark grey, smart (as far as smart can be) and the older, wiser brother to my 90s predecessor. Although I bought them from Asos, they were dreamed up by clever folk such as Neil Barrett and Philip Lim.
The half-trouser, half-cuffed joggers bridge the gap that needn't ever exist. Well considered gentlemen would not dream of choosing gym wear for a trip down town, let alone in the surrounds of their own home. These came about when necessity met intelligence. A hybrid. A Toyota Prius. Trousers are practical and reliable for everyday use, sure, but with the added tendencies of jogging bottoms, they're all kinds of cosy irreverence. A pair such as these with a higher waist, slim legs and cuffed ankles elongate and define more so than any ordinary trousers could, which is why I bought two more pairs.
